PUBLIC HEALTH IN INDONESIA AND NEW ZEALAND

Health is one of the many factors which we can use to asses or to evaluate the national health of a country. Here, I will try to compare and to contras the health of Indonesia and New Zealand. There are some health indicators which I will use to assess the health of these two countries, like total of population, life expectancy and number of hospitals.

The total population of Indonesia in 2016 was 261.1 million and the fertility rate is declining and life expectancy (both sexes) at birth for Indonesia is 71.3 (according to population Division of Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nation. On the other hand, New Zealand population in 2016 was 4.693 million and total life expectancy (both sexes) at birth for New Zealand is 80.6 years.

According to data from the Ministry of Health of Indonesia, there are 2454 hospitals around the country. Most hospitals are in urban areas. Among these, 882 of these hospitals are government owned and 1509 are private hospitals. Whereas in New Zealand, according to the Ministry of public health, there are 83 public hospitals spread around this country.

As a conclusion, Indonesian population is higher than New Zealand. But in another two aspects are quite different, for example in life expectancy factor, New Zealand is higher than Indonesia, which means New Zealander life  9.3 years longer than Indonesian. If we compare the number of hospitals, it is clear that numbers of Indonesian hospitals are higher than New Zealand. But it will different in service aspect as well because 106.356.968 Indonesians will be serviced by 1 hospital. In contrast, 56.542.168 New Zealanders will be serviced by 1 hospital, which meant, New Zealand public health service is much better than Indonesia.
